All this talk of men in dressing gowns is okay, but I hear you ask - What about women and dressing gowns?!

While men in Europe were quick to adopt and incorporate the textiles inspired by Asia and Asia and clothing was not until the late 18th century that fashionable women would be influenced. At this time it was a little accent, like a shawl or a fan and would be more than 100 years before women in Europe are starting to wear clothing from other cultures, such as kimono and plussize wedding dresses.

There is little mention in history books of women in robes, although we do know that, indeed, carry the equivalent of the prom dresses   even though it was much simpler in style and fabric to the banyan tree man. In his study of nineteenth-century French bourgeoisie Philippe Perrot style notes:

"The evening dresses was a curious division between men and women. The men were dazzling and women were monotonous.
